The 10 Secrets
Introduction
In addition to her public messages, Our Lady has gradually revealed to each of the six visionaries a total of ten secrets concerning significant events that will occur on Earth. The visionaries have been allowed to disclose only a few small details about the nature of these secrets. Once a visionary has received all ten secrets, Our Lady ceases her daily apparitions to that visionary and instead appears to them annually for the rest of their lives.
Gradual revelation of the secrets to each visionary
Currently, Ivan, Vicka, and Marija have received nine of the ten secrets so far, and Our Lady continues to appear to them daily, regardless of their location, at 6:40 pm (5:40 pm daylight savings time), as per the time of the first apparition in 1981.
Mirjana, Ivanka, and Jakov have received all 10 secrets. Consequently, Our Lady now appears to them only once per year.
Apart from the limited details they have been allowed to share publicly, the six visionaries do not disclose or discuss the secrets amongst themselves or with others.
Mirjana’s role
Mirjana has been given the role of being involved in the announcement of the secrets when the appointed time comes to reveal them.
Ten days before the events of a secret are due to occur, Mirjana will approach her chosen priest (currently Father Petar Ljubičić) or a priest selected by Our Lady. They will then undertake seven days of prayer and fasting in preparation. Three days before the events of that secret are due to take place, the chosen priest will publish the secret to the world, ensuring that the events are recognised as originating from the Lord. It is important to note that the priest will not have the authority to decide whether or not to reveal the secrets.
Mirjana has also been entrusted with a special scroll from Our Lady which also contains the ten secrets in written form. This scroll cannot be read or understood by anyone other than those chosen to do so. Mirjana has said that the reason for also having the secrets in written form on this scroll has not yet been revealed to her, but perhaps it means some of the secrets could be revealed after her lifetime if necessary.
What else do we know about the ten secrets so far?
The ten secrets are to be understood as "3 + 7", meaning the first three secrets will be warnings or great signs, while the remaining seven secrets will involve very challenging events and chastisements for the world.
Mirjana has stated that the first two secrets will be connected to Medjugorje and will serve as warnings and guidance.
For the third secret, Our Lady will leave a permanent sign on Apparition Hill, the location of her initial appearance. This sign will clearly show it is not of human origin. People will be able to photograph and film the sign, but its true appreciation will require seeing it in person. This sign will primarily be for unbelievers.
Our Lady gave the following warning about this sign for the faithful “This sign will be given for the atheists. You faithful already have signs and you have become the sign for the atheists. You faithful must not wait for the sign before you convert; convert soon. This time is a time of grace for you. You can never thank God enough for his grace. This time is for deepening your faith, and for your conversion. When the sign comes, it will be too late for many.”
Regarding the other secrets, there are only the following details about the seventh secret: Upon receiving the seventh secret, Mirjana implored Our Lady to intercede to soften its severity. Through the collective prayers and fasting efforts of her family, friends, nuns, and priests, Our Lady confirmed that, by the grace of God, it has been lessened in severity, but it will still be severe.
Mirjana has emphasised it is important to state that Our Lady has not come to announce humanity's destruction, but instead salvation, and through her Son, Our Lady's immaculate heart will triumph over evil.
The ninth and tenth secrets will have the most serious consequences. They consist of chastisements for the sins of the world. These punishments will be inevitable, for we cannot expect the whole world to be converted. These punishments can be diminished by prayer and penance, but they cannot be eliminated.
