The Overall Message
According to the visionaries' collective testimony, Our Lady conveyed a series of messages during her apparitions. These messages can be summarised into five key themes: Peace, Faith, Conversion, Prayer, and Fasting.
Peace
Peace is immediately emphasised in the first week of the apparitions by Our Lady as her primary message. Our Lady repeatedly emphasises the urgent need of peace between God and humanity and each other. She specifically chose to appear in Medjugorje under the title of the Queen of Peace, highlighting the great need for peace and her role.
Faith
Her second theme centres around faith. Our Lady urges unyielding faith, which leads to peace. By accepting God's Word, individuals are totally transformed, establishing peace within their heart, with God and with others.
“Dear children! My earthly life was simple. I loved and I rejoiced in small things. I loved life – the gift from God – even though pain and sufferings pierced my heart. My children, I had the power of faith and boundless trust in God's love. All those who have the power of faith are stronger. Faith makes you live according to what is good and then the light of God's love always comes at the desired moment. That is the force which sustains in pain and suffering. My children, pray for the power of faith, trust in the Heavenly Father, and do not be afraid. Know that not a single creature who belongs to God will be lost but will live forever. Every pain has its end and then life in freedom begins there where all of my children come – where everything is returned. My children, your battle is difficult. It will be even more difficult, but you, follow my example. Pray for the power of faith; trust in the love of the Heavenly Father. I am with you, I am manifesting myself to you, I am encouraging you. Conversion
Conversion is another significant theme of her messages. Our Lady is concerned about the lack of faith within society and emphasises the need for a real change of heart. True conversion purifies the heart and lays the foundations for peace.
Prayer
Prayer is consistently recommended by Our Lady. She urges continuous prayer, recognising its essential role in strengthening faith and maintaining a harmonious relationship with God and our fellow human beings. "Prayer is the oxygen of the soul." - Padre Pio.
Fasting
Fasting, another recurring message, is advocated as a means to enhance faith. Our Lady highlights the importance of fasting for self-control, self-denial, will power and discipline and the freedom it brings from addiction, destructive desires, and impulse. Fasting also fosters empathy for the poor and bridges the gap between the better off and the impoverished.
In summary, we can say that Our Lady's messages underline that peace is the greatest need at present, and that faith, conversion, prayer, and fasting are the means by which we can attain peace for ourselves and for others.
